Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) - AmeriCorps Non-native Plant Terminators (A.N.T.) Position Overview: The Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) AmeriCorps program is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Florida Park Service, with AmeriCorps Volunteers serving at state parks throughout Florida. Volunteers work in pairs in approximately 25 state parks, focusing on habitat restoration through management of invasive exotic plants. They help reduce invasive plant infestations through land management techniques, educate park visitors and communities through outreach and interpretation, and recruit volunteers to support exotic plant management efforts. Volunteers report daily to onsite park management and submit service data to FLCC staff in Gainesville, FL. Volunteers are required to serve 1,700 hours between September 2026 and July 31, 2027 (approximately 35–40 hours per week).Tool maintenance (chainsaws, trail tools, herbicide application tools, hatchets, machetes, hand saws, vehicles, ATV, UTV)Safe use of herbicide applicationParticipate in prescribed fireCreate/maintain/improve public trailsIntroduction to federal and state policy and guidelinesExperience entering data and retrieving reports for progress trackingOrganize and/or participate in strike teams and service projectsNetwork and build relationships with natural resource professionalsCommunity OutreachFlyer and graphic design and developmentRecruit volunteers and lead volunteer projectsInteract and educate park visitorsParticipate in disaster response and recovery effortsThis position will directly impact the Florida State Parks by improving natural communities, recruiting volunteers, educating the public, and enhancing trails.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and resource management techniquesSkill in communicating effectively verbally and in writingAbility to use a computer and software such as Microsoft Office SuiteOther Qualifications Attend in-person orientation (dates TBD)Complete 1,700 hours between September 1, 2026 and July 31, 2027Successfully complete background and fingerprint checksPrepare reports accuratelyInteract professionally with internal and external customers and the general publicParticipate in resource management tasks, including non-native plant removal which may include herbicide applicationFollow verbal and written instructionsEstablish and maintain effective working relationshipsWork outdoors in inclement weatherPerform physical laborLift 40 pounds and assist in transporting items or supplies 100 pounds or moreProperly wear uniformMinimum Qualifications This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust.
