Department: Public Works & Engineering

Pay Range: $44,387.20-$73,216.00 annually, depending on knowledge and experience.
***Requires a Class B CDL, but a Class A CDL is preferred***

Minimum Preparation for Work:

  • Sufficient education to read and write; and
  • Two (2) years experience in the operation of the assigned equipment.


Necessary Special Requirements:
  • Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.


Nature of Work: This is skilled work in the operation of specially designed street sweeping equipment. An employee in this classification, under general supervision, is responsible for street clearing and sweeping.
Examples of Work:
  • Operates a specially designed street sweeper.
  • May be required on a regular basis to work pre-dawn hours as scheduled.
  • Performs minor servicing work of sweepers.
  • May perform assignments related to street sweeping duties when needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of street locations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation and servicing of sweeper equipment.
  • Good knowledge of traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
  • Skill in the care and operation of assigned equipment.
  • Ability to carry out oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Mental and Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, smell and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch and crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception.
The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment: An employee in this job is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and has a risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
