Overview

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial health and stability of the organization by managing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. This role ensures the accuracy of financial records, implements robust internal controls, and provides strategic insights to support organizational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
  • Establish and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate audits and provide documentation to external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations and other financial laws.
Strategic Planning and Analysis:
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities to enhance profitability.
  • Assess financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Team Leadership:
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting and finance team, ensuring professional development and high performance.
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
Systems and Process Improvement:
  • Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement accounting software or tools needed to support company growth.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, ERP systems) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
Education Background and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA certification preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, including leadership roles.
Physical Demands (To include but not limited to)
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or workstation.
  • Occasional standing or walking within the office or shop, such as attending meetings, retrieving documents, or interacting with customers or employees.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying items, typically weighing up to 10-20 pounds.
  • Frequent use of fingers and hands for typing, writing, and operating a computer.
  • Using telephones, printers, copiers, and other office tools.
  • Frequent need to focus on printed or digital material.
  • Reviewing financial documents, schedules, or customer data with accuracy.
  • Regular communication with customers, vendors, and team members, either in person, on the phone, or via video conferencing.
  • Engaging with customers in person or over the phone, sometimes requiring extended periods of active listening and problem-solving.
  • Prolonged exposure to hot or cold temperatures.
  • Mild noise from office machines or nearby shop areas if the office is adjacent to the workshop. PPE may be required while walking through the shop.
  • Moving around the office or between departments, sometimes requiring the ability to climb stairs.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle.
