Job Title: General Manager

Reports to: Owner

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Oversees the quality and success of Goldfish Swim School daily operations including staffing, marketing, pool operations, cash management, customer service, retail and vending department, private party operations, workplace employee activities, facility maintenance and financial results.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversees human resources to include procedures, recruiting, interviewing, paperwork, scheduling, time collection, payroll, staff development and staff evaluations.
  2. Directs and controls the daily operations to ensure the school is running per GSS standard operating procedures.
  3. Manages the staff of GSS to ensure high productivity, excellent performance and positive employee satisfaction.
  4. Trains and oversees aquatics department to provide superior swim instruction to the students of GSS. Interacts with the Assistant Managers, the Deck Supervisors and other lead positions on issues related to class scheduling, student progress, customer service and employee performance and training.
  5. Oversees sales and marketing training to all qualified sales staff.
  6. Provides direction in the retail and vending departments to ensure a proper mix of products and pricing is achieved.
  7. Oversees private party staff to ensure that the GSS standard operating procedures are being maintained.
  8. Gains knowledge and experience of scheduling applications to achieve a high level of competence in bookings, class scheduling, reporting and administrative functions.
  9. Gains a high level of knowledge and experience in the GSS pool operations necessary to maintain a safe and sanitary swim environment.
  10. Initiates and oversees workplace employee activities (“Fun” Department) with the goal of achieving improved employee satisfaction.
  11. Directs and oversees the implementation of the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and all safety procedures that pertain to the GSS facility. Trains all current staff on the GSS EAP.
  12. Maintains current certifications and stays up-to-date professionally on the aquatics and management field.
  13. Manages all schedules and budgets.
  14. Oversees facility maintenance while maintaining the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the building.
  15. Performs monthly billing and resolves billing issues.
  16. Performs monthly financial analysis of company results.
  17. Participates in Goldfish leadership conference as well as Goldfish training and meetings.
  18. Fulfills other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications or equivalent is desired. Experience in retail operations and as a youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor or aquatics instructor/supervisor is preferred. Three to five years management experience is preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required. Lifeguard Instructor certification is highly encouraged.

Work Environment: This is a full-time position requiring 45-50 hours a week. Hours of operations include weekday evenings and weekend hours. While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
