Description
JOB SUMMARY
Perform grounds maintenance and landscaping; periodically perform general maintenance on lawn equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Grounds Maintenance at 8333 N Davis Highway:
Safety first: Keep walkways and the entirety of the campus grounds free of litter. Monitor pedestrian traffic areas for potential slip/trip hazards. Blow off sidewalks daily.
Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
Decorate gardens with a combination pf plants, stones, and mulch.
Care for ornamental plants including seasonal care and planting.
Care for common grasses for the Florida panhandle region. Seasonal testing of soil samples to maintain healthy grass beds.
Weed control activities: Weekly pulling of weeds. Knowledge of seasonal pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides. Knowledge of broadleaf treatments. Spraying and cutting weeds in equipment areas.
Mow, edge, and trim lawns using common landscaping power tools.
Remove dead leaves from grassy areas.
Lay new sod and/or add grass seed depending on the grass type.
Maintain and repair the irrigation system.
Maintain the pond; ensure all aeration equipment, pumps, overflows, and waterfalls are working, via prompt repairs; ensure the retaining walls and rock features are safe.
Trim low handing or dead tree limbs.
Annually paint curbs and parking spots during the off season.
Annually oversee pressure washing of sidewalks.
Clean, repair, and maintain all grounds equipment and the grounds equipment storage areas.
Maintain current SDS book for all landscaping chemicals.
Participate in special projects.
Follow protocols for opening/closing of various buildings and the campus at large for regular work days, weekends, holidays, and severe weather events.
Follow protocols and procedures for storage and PM of tools and equipment.
Serve as a general security presence and visible deterrent to crime and rule infractions. Provide protection of life and property and safety to patients, general public, and employees.
Provide controlled access to the various campus buildings.
Be watchful for suspicious activities, criminal acts, or rule infractions throughout MCC properties that may be a threat to the facility, patients, visitors, or employees at the site.
Patrol MCC main campus with random walking patrols or vehicle patrols.
Report all incidents, accidents, or medical emergencies to the Director of Facilities, the SVP Administration, or Risk Management Department with completion of an incident report.
Report unsafe acts and environmental conditions to the Director of Facilities, the SVP Administration, or Risk Management Department as required.
Respond immediately to emergencies, such as medical and bomb threats, and to alarms, such as fire and intrusion.
Be prepared with minimal notice to secure MCC properties in the event of inclement weather and/or unpredictable crisis situations, and to stay on-site during such conditions.
Consistently practice good safety techniques to accomplish all tasks which include the use of proper personal safety equipment (safety eye wear, ear plugs, and safety garments). Consistently follow procedures and safety measures specific to area of maintenance specialty.
May be authorized and trained in the use of a fire extinguisher.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education requirement is high school diploma or equivalency.
Minimum 1 year experience as a landscaper.
Must have valid driver's license, and be insurable per our automotive insurance company's criteria, to operate all MCC vehicles including rented equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Heavy (exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally)
Standing/Walking: Frequently; activity exists from &fac34; of the time
Keyboarding/Dexterity: Occasionally; activity exists from 1/3 of the time
Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
Ability to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 100 pounds on a periodic basis throughout a work day.
Ability to operate a variety of grounds keeping vehicles and tools.
Ability to operate and work in a small boat, outfitted with a trolling motor, to perform certain pond care functions.
Ambulate throughout an eleven-story building and multi-building campus.
Ability to work all shifts to include holidays and weekends, and change shifts as necessary with minimal notice.
