ENTRY SALARY: $37,388.90
Under direct supervision, the Parks Service Technician is responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled manual work of ordinary difficulty in the care, keeping, and beautification of all parks, landscape, grounds, and recreation facilities.
Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Cleans, repairs, and maintains grounds, play areas, park properties and facilities, irrigation systems, landscaping, and athletic fields; ensures aesthetically pleasing and fully functioning facilities and areas.
* Services the landscaped areas of the parks and recreation department; mows, trims, weeds, and assists with irrigation maintenance.
* Applies, sprays, chemicals and spreads granular applications of pesticides and fertilizers; demonstrates skill and knowledge to ensure safety and compliance.
* Performs manual and minor maintenance in relation to grounds, facility, and park amenities; services, cleans, and monitors the condition of the public restrooms within the parks department and facilities.
* Serves as gardener, caretaker, park maintenance worker, and janitor for any and all service needs of the department; may engage with customers regarding facility conditions.
* Performs tasks involving the use of hand tools, power tools and equipment, and the operation of City vehicles such as pickup trucks and small dump trucks.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
This position is required to operate the below equipment, machines, tools, and other work aides:
Drive truck and trailer; operate tractor and beach rake, riding mower and mule. Utilize backpack blower, hand blower, stick edger, weed eater, chainsaw, Toro Workman, pressure washer, all misc. sharpening blade grinders, hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, and other equipment as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Must have minimum Tenth Grade Education AND one (1) year of experience as a semi-skilled laborer in the care and maintenance of parks, landscape, athletic fields, or other similar grounds; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
